WWE NXT 2.0 9/13/2022

This is the one year anniversary of NXT 2.0. It's been a huge success in my opinion with one of the best rookie classes ever with Bron Breakker, Tiffany Stratton, Tony D'Angelo, The Creed Brothers and others. They turned Carmelo Hayes and Grayson Waller into future stars and they did wonders for people like Andre Chase.
Steel Cage Match - The Creed Brothers vs Pretty Deadly
PD tries to escape early. The Creed's try to catapult them into the cage, but they hang on to the cage and try to escape. They fight on top of the cage and Elton hangs by one arm off of it. Elton is thrown into the cage by Julius and Kit goes into the cage too. Elton takes knees from both Creed's and Kit hits a nice flying euro on Brutus. Elton is on the 2nd rope, Kit gets on his back and is pushed into a codebreaker attempt. Brutus powerbombs Elton into the cage and Elton gets stuck between the ropes and cage in a cool sell.
Kit and Brutus fight on top of the cage and on the top rope. Both bang their heads into the cage and go down. Julius does a flipping reverse spanish fly off the top rope with Elton and lands on his feet in a great spot. We go to PiP break where Kit is hit with the door by Brutus. Julius is back splashed into the corner by Kit then Brutus gets it from Elton. Elton ddt's Brutus out of the bear hug. Brutus has his face pushed into the cage by Elton. We return from break and they are fighting on the top rope. Julius takes a double superplex with his legs on the top of the cage.
Brutus belly to belly suplexes Elton then hits Karelin's lift on Kit. Julius has both PD members on his shoulders and Brutus top rope cannonballs them. Damon Kemp comes down and climbs the cage and Julius fights him at the top of the cage. Kemp climbs down but Julius is handcuffed to the top of the cage. Kemp laughs and Brutus double clotheslines PD. PD gets thrown into the cage and takes shoulders. Brutus belly to belly suplexes Kit and goes to help Brutus try and get the cuffs off. Brutus top rope cannonballs both PD members for 2. Elton goes to crawl out and Julius stops him. Brutus ankle locks Elton then Brutus takes the spilled milk from PD for 2. Brutus gets stomped by PD then is thrown into the cage. Brutus is splashed into the cage then takes another spilled milk for the PD win.
Really good match here. PD were great bumping around, The Creed's were good throwing them around and while Kemp interfering did kind of suck, it made sense. This was so much fun.

We go to the back with Von Wagner, Wes Lee and Joe Gacy. A fan vote decides who gets to fight Carmelo Hayes for the N-A title and Wes Lee wins the vote. Von runs out in anger. Joe says he accepts the result of the vote, Wes says he has to get ready and Joe says he has other things to do.
We get a video package on the history of NXT 2.0. It was a pretty good package featuring a lot of different stars and moments.
Lash Legend vs Fallon Henley
Lash was oddly not out there with PD, so I guess that grouping was temporary. Sadly, I can't say Lash has improved much at all over the last year. Fallon Henley came out with a kid with cancer who was dressed up in a wolf costume.
Lash attacks her at the bell then Fallon hits some bad dropkicks. Lash pump kicks her on the apron then throws her into the post. Lash knees her in the gut then backbreakers her over the shoulder. Fallon upkicks her then does a bodyscissors into a bulldog. Fallon then ste up enzugiri's her and wins it.
This was quick and not too good.
Feroz, Leon and Sanga talk. Leonsays her leg is torn and hse will be out 9 months. Robert Stone and Von Wagner walk in complaining about losing the vote. Sanga tells them to watch their language then Von and Sanga go face to face. Stone tells Von to save it and backs him off.
Briggs and Jensen celebrate with Fallon then Jensen tells Mandy she looked amazing on instagram. He almost said her chest looked amazing. mandy turns him down and tells him to go then Fallon and Mandy argue. Mandy makes a remark saying "I remember when I won my first match" and Fallon is pulled away from going after her. Mandy posted an instagram photo only wearing her titles belts, and that was what Jensen was referencing.
Toxic Attraction does a promo. She said she took out two of NXT UK's best and may do the same when NXT Europe comes around. Jacy says they are the supergroup of all supergroups and Gigi talks about how great they are. Jacy says the women's tag titles are on loan to Kacy and Kayden. Jacy then says they will prove to Ivy Nile and Tatum Paxley that there's Toxic Attraction and then everyone else. Mandy said they have proven they are the baddest b*tches in the room. Mandy says she is on her way to becoming the longest reigning NXT women's champ and says Bron and Melo haven't carried titles as long as she has.
Alba Fyre comes out. She said Mandy doesn't know where she comes from. She said they don't brag in Scotland and let the hard work do the talking for them. Alba says she is a battle tested warrior then says she is the next NXT champ. She puts her bat in Mandy's face, T-A attacks and is hit with it then Alba superkicks and gori special drops Mandy. Mandy is then pulled out before Alba can do anything else.
Cora Jade does a video promo. She said she was trying to impress people and get them to like her. She talks about Perez. She said we know the story and called her a loser. She said she is living her best life and doesn't need anyone's approval. She said her shoe has more personality than Zoey Stark. She rips other girls on the roster and says she doesn't like T-A, but she understands them. She calls Wendy Choo a human stuffed animal. She said she doesn't belong in the ring but in a baby's playroom. She said she will be the #1 woman in wrestling by next year.
Wendy Choo is interviewed. She said Jade is jealous. She said she doesn't live in the Generation of Jade, but in an apartment. She said she dresses odd but is a smart person. Lash Legend comes in. Wendy says she won't interrupt her interview and Lash continues to. Wendy said she had the lights turned out on the last peron who came up to her.
We see Quincy Elliot arrive in the back on a scooter.
Quincy Elliot vs Sean Gallagher
Quincy has a black, gold and purple one piece suit on and twers on the post. He also has a shiny gold glove. Sean is just a jobber.
Quincy dances to start and rolls out of a wristlock and blows a kiss. They punch each other and Quincy running euro's him. Quincy banzai drops him and blows a kiss to win it.
This was quick, probably too quick. It didn't show off his abilities so much and was more to show his gay gimmick.
Quincy dances with the ref and tries to kiss him after.
Cameron Grimes is interviewed. He said this isn't the first time his mouth has gotten him in trouble. He said he doesn't have a partner against Stacks and Tony D tonight and said he is the man who is going to the moon.
We see Trick and Melo beating up Wes Lee in the back ahead of their title match tonight. Wes has a locker door banged into his neck and refs come in to stop it.
Tony D'Angelo and Channing "Stacks" Lorenzo vs Cameron Grimes
Stacks locks up with Grimes. Grimes knees Stacks in the gut and dropkicks him in the neck. Tony pounds on Grimes then takes kicks. Grimes sunset flips Tony and Stacks stomps on Grimes. Grimes takes a double back elbow and is slammed. The Schism comes out and Gacy gets on the corner to be Grimes' partner. Gacy wants the tag in. Stacks clubs Grimes in the chest and Grimes back body drops him. Grimes sees Gacy begging for the tag then Tony suplexes Grimes for 2.
Tony mocks Grimes asking if he wants to tag him then Gacy spears him in the corner. Grimes evades a 2v1 then hurricanrana's both opponents at the same time. Gacy wants the tag. Grimes flips out of a backdrop, Grimes tags himself in and clears off Tony and Stacks. Gacy uranages Stacks then Grimes confronts him. Grimes says he doesn't need his help then is pulled out by Tony. Grimes does a nice standing splash fly on Stacks and M. Bison stomps Tony. Gacy then does his handspring clothesline and grabs the win.
This was a fun little match and played upon the story of Grimes and The Schism well.
Gacy hugs Grimes after and Grimes pushes him off. Grimes says he doesn't need him and Gacy offers another hug. The crowd chants "hug it out" then Dyad jump Grimes from behind. Grimes takes a tombstone into a codebreaker then Gacy handspring lariats Grimes. Gacy then puts one of Dyad's smiley face pins on Grimes. Schism poses to end the segment.
We see JD McDonagh getting his beard shaved. He says personal grooming is a necessity. Someone named "Gabe" is doing it for him. Gabe cuts him, making him bleed and Gabe says "sorry, sir". JD says Bron hasn't slipped his mind and promises him that the cat and mouse game ends soon.
Tyler Bate is interviewed. He said he wants a rematch with Bron. He said he has history with JD McDonagh and said if JD wants an NXT Title shot, he has to get through him first.
Zoey Stark and Nikkita Lyons vs Arianna Grace and Kiana James
Zoey side headlocks James and Lyons side headlocks her. Lyons suplexes her and James brings a bag into the ring. We go to break and return. Lyons lariats Grace then spin kicks her in the face for 2. Zoey does a sick release suplex on Grace then Zoey makes a comeback on James.
James lariats Zoey outside then Lyons teases going at James. James chinlocks Zoey then side backbreakers her for 2. Tames knocks Lyons off the apron then takes a nice back body drop from Zoey. Zoey hits lariats on Grace then spinning back elbows her. Zoey does a nice sliding knee on Grace then Grace kicks her for 2. Zoey flips Grace into a knee then Lyons corkscrew kicks Grace. She jumping splits on Grace and wins it.
It was pretty decent for the women. Not a classic or anything but far better than I had expected. Probably the best thing Grace and JAmes were involved in.
Enofe and Blade talk to someone in a hoodie and said they weren't picking Gacy for the best superstar. Dyad walk out and then attack them and they fight. The fight is broken up and Hank Walker comes out. Hank is told he has a match and is told to get ready.
We see Wes Lee being worked on by the doctor.
We see a promo for Oro Mensah, who is Oliver Carter from NXT UK. He was technically fired, so this is surprising. He did good in NXT UK, but he's been a pro for 10 years and I feel like his skin color has a lot to do with some of the chances he got. There's rookies on the roster who are further along with barely a year of experience.
Grayson Waller is interviewed. We are told the results of the biggest star poll in NXT. Waller tinks he has it won and Waller is not one of the final four nominees. Waller says everyone sucks and doesn't know real talent. He says he is the face of this brand.
Javier Bernal vs Hank Walker
Hank has no music and the crowd chants "Hank" and "We want Hank". He's super over here. JB wristlocks him and Hank escapes it and stares him down. Hank lifts JB and carries him into the corner. Hank gets fired up and throws JB far across the ring. Hank is tripped into the 2nd rope then takes leg kicks. JB dropkicks him in the leg and Hank throws him again. JB tries to bang Hank's head off the buckle but Hank does it to him instead. JB chinlocks him then Hank thesz presses him and pounds on him. Hank takes his shirt off and corner splashes him. Hank crossbodies him and wins.
Hank had a nice comeback here. Him being super over was surprising and this match wasn't that good. It was short and very simple. People in the chat for this were remarking that Hank is fat.
We see clips of various special entrances over the last year.
Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams talk in the back. They say you can't vote on greatness and say this isn't a game.
We get a Sol Ruca vignette at the beach. We see her doing flips and cartwheels.
Bron Breakker is voted Biggest Superstar of NXT 2.0.
Trick talks before the match. He says they are too good to be this humble. Melo said he did Wes Lee a favor and said Wes is not built for this. Melo says heavy is the head that wears the crowd and said he has the heaviest head and crown. Solo Sikoa comes out. Solo says "like I said before, I got next". He then throws both out.
NXT North American Title - Carmelo Hayes vs Solo Sikoa
Solo punch flurries him early then back body drops him. Melo comes back with chops and punches then Solo back elbows him. Melo evades his running hip attack then rolls out of a slingshot. Solo throws him over the top onto Trick. We go to PiP break. They fight outside and Melo goes into the steps. Melo is thrown in then jumps him when he follows. Solo headbutts Melo and we return from break.
Solo traphezeus holds him and blocks a pump kick. Solo punches him outside and Trick bangs Solo's knee (which is brace'd up) off the apron. Melo springboard twisting clothesline him then clips him. Melo pulls on the knee then single leg crabs him. Solo hits punches on Melo then superkicks him. Solo samoan drops him and shakes the ropes.
Solo running hip attacks him and Trick tries to interfere. Melo codebreakers Solo then is popped up into a samoan drop. Trick gets on the apron. Solo superkicks him off then catches Melo with a uranage. Solo top rope splashes Melo and wins in an upset!
I'm really surprised Solo won here since Melo was doing well and since he is now a main roster member. We have an odd situation now with Solo being a face on NXT and a heel on Smackdown. The announcers question what happens to the N-A title now. This was a decent match with the two clicking better than I expected. Maybe the best non-hardcore match I have seen Solo in.
Shawn Michaels talked about NXT over a highlight video. He said NXT is always focused on the future and says we are NXT. We then see the NXT 2.0 logo change to a black/gold/white variant without the 2.0, so I guess we are just back to NXT now?
Overall thoughts: A pretty good episode of NXT. We had some good matches and a lot of storyline advancement. The cage match was really worth going out of your way to see and was th best thing on the show.
